Boundary Layer Adaptivity for Transonic Turbulent Flows
Simulations of turbulent flows are challenging and require tight and varying mesh spacings near the walls that depend on the turbulence models used. Semi-structured meshes are often used in the turbulent wall boundary layers due to their ability to be strongly graded and anisotropic. To reduce the discretization errors in the solution, an adaptive approach becomes essential due to the lack of g...
متن کاملReceptivity and non-uniqueness of turbulent boundary layer flows
The classical theory of firmly attached time-mean turbulent boundary layers, exhibiting fully developed broadband turbulence, in the limit of large Reynolds numbers, Re, is extended in two ways, where the focus lies on their stability and receptivity. At first, the description of non-unique equilibrium flows having a so-called moderately large velocity deficit is generalised as weak spanwise va...
متن کاملTurbulent Boundary-Layer Separation
This article summarizes our present understanding of the physical behavior of two-dimensional turbulent separated flows, which occur due to adverse pressure gradients around streamlined and bluff bodies. The physical behavior of turbulence is flow dependent, so detailed experimental infor mation is needed for understanding such flows and modeling their physics for calculation methods. An earli...
متن کاملTurbulent boundary layer equations
We study a boundary layer problem for the Navier-Stokes-alpha model obtaining a generalization of the Prandtl equations conjectured to represent the averaged flow in a turbulent boundary layer. We solve the equations for the semi-infinite plate, both theoretically and numerically. The latter solutions agree with some experimental data in the turbulent boundary layer.
متن کاملEffects of coupling on turbulent gas-particle boundary layer flows at borderline volume fractions using kinetic theory
This study is concerned with the prediction of particles’ velocity in a dilute turbulent gas-solidboundary layer flow using a fully Eulerian two-fluid model. The closures required for equationsdescribing the particulate phase are derived from the kinetic theory of granular flows. Gas phaseturbulence is modeled by one-equation model and solid phase turbulence by MLH theory. Resultsof one-way and...
